The rk Process

In this step-by-step guide, I show you exactly what you can expect from working with me.

I’ve outlined my ENTIRE process below, but I understand some of it may not apply to your project. I work directly with each client to develop a plan that suits your unique needs!

STEP 1

Ask questions. Before I see your home, I want to get to know you. Let’s meet for coffee or talk over the phone. Here are a few of the questions that I’ll ask you:

  1. What are things that you enjoy?

  2. What are things about your current aesthetic situation that you want to diminish? -highlight?

  3. What are your goals in including me on this journey?

  4. What do you love about your home right now?

  5. What are 4 things that bring you joy?

  6. And yes, what is your budget?

Are you eager to jump in? We can have our consultation in your home and combine steps 1 and 2.

STEP 2

Meet the home. This is when I will walk through your house, take measurements, mark natural light sources and start envisioning the potential. I’ll photograph everything, taking note of what you like and what you want to change. That’s my part. Your part is to send me photos that make you happy. “Inspo pics” are so useful in portraying to me the type of aesthetic you want.

STEP 3

Set realistic goals. Whether you need easier organization, wall art, layout assistance, color scheming, texture suggestions or all of the above, we need to discuss exactly what I’ll be helping you with.

I’m also here to help you set realistic expectations based on your budget.

STEP 4

Establish the design plan. We’ll lay out the colors, textures and patterns you want to incorporate. We’ll also discuss the specifics regarding the type of purchases that need to be made (furniture, hiring painters, flooring, decor, storage items, etc.) The good news is you may have most of what you need! Repurposing items you already own is a cheap way to create a unique and customized style.

STEP 5 (simultaneous to STEP 6)

Get rid of everything that isn’t used or doesn’t bring you joy. We can sell it or donate it, but it should be gone before we bring new things in.

STEP 6

Go shopping. By this time I will have a good understanding of your style and preferences so I can cater my shopping to pieces you will love.

This is when we’ll also discuss the type of stores you are interested in. I can dig around in thrift stores, order online or shop at chain stores. Most people don’t have a preference here, but if you do, this is the time to let me know!

STEP 7

This is the fun part. Now we get to put everything together. If you agree, I’d love to include you in this step. I want your house to be livable, so including you here helps ensure my staging doesn’t take away from the natural flow of your every day.

STEP 8

Live in it. I grant my clients one week to live in their newly staged home. After experiencing every day of the week, you’ll see the placements that do and don’t work. If you have a solution, go for it. If not, I’m more than happy to come back and help figure out what we could change to give you a functional, beautiful home.

STEP 9

Give me feedback. I want to consistently grow into a better consultant and designer. I’ll send you a survey about two weeks after our final touches. Here’s your chance to truly help me grow. Did I listen to you? Did I include you in the decisions too much? Too little? What did you love and what annoyed you about working with me? I take this to heart in order to consistently provide my clients with an experience and end result that brings them joy.
